Fly Like An Eagle

Fly like an Eagle - Well not quite an Eagle but a Turkey Buzzard. The serenity of these large birds gliding in the air is a calming site. They glide so effortlessly like a Free Spirit.

It would be amazing to glide like this. The wind gently blowing in your face, flowing through your hair. No worries; No cares. Just you and the surrounding atmosphere. The air cleansing your body; the quietness calming your spirit.

Thoughts come and go until you are completely in the moment of the gliding. Your body is light now. It moves side to side as it catches the flow of the wind slipping through the tips of your wings. Your tail feathers fluttering. You never experienced anything like this before. It is phenomenal! Your eyes focus now on the brilliant colors of the autumn trees. Scarlet, burnt orange, gold - they are overwhelming! You continue to glide along noticing familiar landmarks that you have viewed a thousand times from the ground but look completely different from this 360 degree aerial view.

What a great Autumn Day in The Great Smoky Mountains; You glided like a Turkey Buzzard.

marygracephotostownsend > TOWNSEND FALL HERITAGE FESTIVAL 2009

Mother Nature took over the Townsend Fall Festival this year. She decided rain would be appropriate for the day and rain it did.

The morning started out hopeful led by false hope of the day before. On the previous day, Friday, they predicted rain that never arrived; so naturally we weren’t expecting any Saturday either. Wrong! So Wrong! The rain started around 10:30 AM and there was no looking back. Sure, it started out as a drizzle leaving a linger of hope, but not long after, it turned into a pounding, driving rain that was none-stop. All the hope, prayers, or bargaining couldn't help.

The Bluegrass Folks are strong willed people; Real Mountain Folks. The audience, musicians, and cloggers pushed forward. A non-stop down pour of precipitation wasn’t going to get them down. Umbrellas up, rain gear on, Mother Nature wasn’t going to shut them down.

As the pounding, driving rain continued, Mother Nature beautified the Fall Festival with the rising mist of the Smoky Mountains and dark dramatic clouds with a special tint of harvest color in the sky.

Eventually, Mother Nature won. The parking field was a stream of mud. The cloggers, musicians and viewers were soaked on through to their skin. It was time to call it quits. The Townsend Fall Festival ended with a bang; it closed down.

This won’t stop the festival in the future. If you have ever been a part of the Townsend Fall Festival you will know why. There is a special Traditional Spirit that lurks there on the grounds at the Visitor Center. It keeps drawing the Mountain Folks back every year. See you in 2010.

marygracephotostownsend > CADES COVE-SUMMER STREAM #252

As we were finishing a hike at Cades Cove last week, we spotted a wooded path that called us in. Once in the woods, we found a blanket of quietness with a babbling mountain stream, lush green trees, and moss covered rocks. So Peaceful & Lovely! I couldn’t resist a photo.

marygracephotostownsend > #248 Buzzy Dupree of Townsend, Tenn...

I'm trying a new photography technique. It's loads of fun! Would like to here your comments.

This photo was taken in The Smokies National Park Roaring Fork Motor Loop. It is a pretty drive, lots of old out buildings, a few very nice mountain overlooks, and beautiful water scenes.
