marygracephotostownsend > TOWNSEND FALL HERITAGE FESTIVAL 2009

Mother Nature took over the Townsend Fall Festival this year. She decided rain would be appropriate for the day and rain it did.

The morning started out hopeful led by false hope of the day before. On the previous day, Friday, they predicted rain that never arrived; so naturally we weren’t expecting any Saturday either. Wrong! So Wrong! The rain started around 10:30 AM and there was no looking back. Sure, it started out as a drizzle leaving a linger of hope, but not long after, it turned into a pounding, driving rain that was none-stop. All the hope, prayers, or bargaining couldn't help.

The Bluegrass Folks are strong willed people; Real Mountain Folks. The audience, musicians, and cloggers pushed forward. A non-stop down pour of precipitation wasn’t going to get them down. Umbrellas up, rain gear on, Mother Nature wasn’t going to shut them down.

As the pounding, driving rain continued, Mother Nature beautified the Fall Festival with the rising mist of the Smoky Mountains and dark dramatic clouds with a special tint of harvest color in the sky.

Eventually, Mother Nature won. The parking field was a stream of mud. The cloggers, musicians and viewers were soaked on through to their skin. It was time to call it quits. The Townsend Fall Festival ended with a bang; it closed down.

This won’t stop the festival in the future. If you have ever been a part of the Townsend Fall Festival you will know why. There is a special Traditional Spirit that lurks there on the grounds at the Visitor Center. It keeps drawing the Mountain Folks back every year. See you in 2010.
